THE new KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Licencing Act, which came into effect at the end of February, introduced several changes to the current law governing the sale of liquor in the province.
For the first time in the province, the sale of alcohol is permitted on Sundays.
According to the Act, liquor outlets and taverns are prohibited from operating within 500 metres from schools and churches.
The law gives communities a say in deciding whether an application for a liquor license is granted or refused; and alcohol consumers and traders are called to be responsible.
