Ongoing strike leaves passengers stranded
'It's not true that the bus drivers were not paid their salaries' - Bus company CEO
UTHUNGULU Bus Services passengers, who use the buses to commute daily to work in Richards Bay and Empangeni, together with the school children, again found themselves stranded on Monday morning as there were still no buses.
After a whole week of being stranded, the people from KwaMthethwa Reserve woke up on Monday with the hope there would be buses, but unfortunately the strike was still on.
Bus drivers strike is illegal
Responding to the article which was published in the Zululand Observer of Thursday 13 March, uThungulu Bus Company CEO Sithole said: ‘It’s not true that the bus drivers were not paid their salaries – as I have proof they were all paid until they embarked on this illegal strike.
‘Yesterday (Monday) the company and the drivers’ representatives were at the Labour Court to try and resolve the matter, resulting in them being interdicted to go back to work.
‘I cannot tell them what to do, so I will wait for them to come back to work, and if they don’t, I will then be forced to take other measures to deal with the matter.
‘It’s bad the passengers are struggling, and, as a company, we are trying our best to have the buses back on the road – even if it means we hire temporary bus drivers to drive those buses to ferry our passengers,’ he said.
