Boys playing girls, scandal and silliness and even a love story is a recipe for hilarity.
The Felixton College play ‘Leading Ladies’ was a theatrical comedy and had the audience laughing and cheering.
The drama department staged the Ken Ludwig play this weekend and locals were pleasantly surprised with the talent on display.
The main actors, Luke Kleynhans (Leo) and Murray Louw (Jack), two hunky rugby players, donned women’s outfits and outdid themselves in the show.
The play tells the story of two down-on-their-luck Shakespearean actors, Leo Clark and Jack Gable. The pair discover through a newspaper that Florence, an older ailing woman, has been unable to find Max and Steve, her ‘nieces’, to include them in her multi-million dollar inheritance.
They decide to pose as Max and Steve to claim portions of it. When they discover that ‘Max’ and ‘Steve’ are actually ‘Maxine’ and ‘Stephanie,’ they continue on, undaunted, in drag.
Leo falls for Florence’s actual niece Meg, while Jack swoons over Florence’s part-time aide Audrey.
The fun never stops and the jokes flow as chaos ensues on stage. Directed by Nick Wilcox, head of drama, the play was entertaining, funny and showed off some hidden talent at Felixton College.
