
25 February – proclamation of the election date and registration is officially closed
5 March – voter’s roll certified and publication of the voter’s roll on the government gazette
• The certified voters’ roll is available for inspection at all IEC offices around the country
12 March – closing date for all parties who want to contest the elections
• Candidate nomination and payment of deposits to be done by 5pm
27 March – signing of the IEC Code of Conduct in the uThungulu District at the Empangeni Civic Centre at 10am
7 April – application for overseas voting closes
• If you will be out of the country on Election Day and you qualify, you can submit a VEC10 to notify the IEC of your intention to vote on 30 April at a South African embassy, high commission or consulate-general abroad
7 – 17 April – application for special votes. This includes:
• Police officials
• Those who are working on election day
• Pregnant women, who are unable to vote on 7 May
• Those who will not be in the country on election day
• Those who are sick and unable to visit a voting station
• Applications must be done at your local IEC office after which the IEC will inform you if the application has been successful
30 April – overseas voting takes place
5 and 6 May – special voting and home visits to be conducted
7 May – ELECTION DAY – voting stations will be opened from 7am – 9pm. Counting will continue thereafter
