Women’s Institute reflects on achievements

Busy year reflected on at WI AGM

LOOKING forward to bumper celebrations for their 25th anniversary in 2015, the Mzingazi Evening Women’s Institute was able to reflect on another successful, busy year during their AGM held at the Richards Bay Library last week.

‘We achieved a number of goals over the past year,’said Chairperson Pat Patterson.

‘Members knitted squares and then stitched them together to make blankets for DICE and also knitted teddies and comfort bags for Lifeline.

‘We had a sales table to raise money for the SPCA and held an exhibition and demonstrations in October, open to the public, to showcase the work of the WI ladies.

‘Our goals are to provide interesting and varied meetings to enrich existing members; to attract new members by imparting new skills; to invite a selection of informative speakers; and also to continue to help as many different charities as much as we can.

‘Fond memories of good friendships made, many different skills learnt, and winning of many shows in Richards Bay – and many years ago at the annual Zululand Show that was held in Eshowe – have made our gatherings worthwhile,’ said Pat.

‘The evening institute was started to accommodate the working ladies, to teach new skills and crafts and provide a platform for fellowship and to enable everyone to play a part in helping the community in some way.

‘Our meetings take place on the first Wednesday of every month at the

Richards Bay Library Hall starting at 5pm and we welcome all ladies.’
