
THE local 20/20 club cricket league will be coming to an end shortly, with only two matches scheduled for this weekend and the finals of both the fist and second divisions scheduled for next Saturday.
This past weekend was a cracker, with all games producing some sensational cricket.
In the First Division Brackenham took on Mtubatuba Rugby Club on the Astroturf wicket at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex.
The home side took to the wicket first and notched up 159/6 in their 20 overs.
The visitors fell short at the crease, ending on 118/8 to hand Brackenham a 41 run victory.
The second First Division game saw Empangeni Rugby Football Club (ERFC) beat Felixton by 22 runs at Addison Park.
The game was a must win for the home side, coming up against the undefeated log leaders.
ERFC put on 162/2 thanks to Stephan Joubert smashing 73 not out and Simon Savides knocking 39.
Phaki Mthethwa 1/27 in four overs was the pick of the bowlers for the Felixton boys.
Felixton’s chase got off to a flyer, with the scoreboard reading 32 for no loss after two overs and 50/1 after five.
But with a regular loss of wickets thereafter, Felixton fell short by 22 runs, with Neil Jordan ending on 58 not out and Ryan Smith contributing 30 to take their side to 140/5 in 20 overs.
ERFC captain Robert Gouws led from the front when he ended with bowling figures of 3/23 in four overs.
The Second Division saw Village taking home a full house of points against eSikhaweni after the pitch was not prepared at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex.
In the last clash of the weekend, Richards Bay Rugby Club 2 stole a five run victory over Thandanani at uMfolozi.
The visitors batted first, putting on 138/7, thanks to Hein Koenerman’s 27 and Wayne Fourie’s 24.
The home side got bowled out for 133/7, thanks maily to spinner Riekert Viljoen (3/18) and captain Rudoplh Prinsloo (2/22).
