Empangeni Prep celebrates its 100th anniversary
EMPANGENI Preparatory School certainly has reason to celebrate this year with their centenary celebrations in full swing.
To mark the special event the school has decorated the Empangeni Museum with artwork, projects, photos and a history of the school, both past and present.
Empangeni Government School, now Empangeni Prep, was established on 1 April 1914, when 15 English speaking pupils commenced their education in a two-room corrugated iron building, with Mr John B Hudson as Headmaster.
After a number of name changes, including Empangeni Senior Primary, the school finally became Empangeni Preparatory School in 1994.
The exhibition will run till the end of April and all are welcome.
Other events to mark the school’s centenary includes a play in August in which the history of the school will be reenacted. The Museum is open from 9am-4pm Monday to Friday and 9am-12am on Saturdays and Sundays.
