Anglers will record billfish strike action

Anglers hit the water for Billfish Classic

IT made a great sight at first light on Wednesday when some 300 deep-sea anglers in 60 skiboats headed out the Richards Bay harbour channel for the start of the SADSAA Nissan Billfish Classic 2014.

And it made yet another statement for the City of uMhlathuze as a premier world sport fishing destination.

Speaking at the skippers’ briefing on Tuesday evening, SADSAA (SA Deep Sea Angling Association) Tournament Officer, Dick Pratt praised both the venue and the organisation of the event,

‘The Richards Bay Ski-boat Club is without doubt the best angling facility in the country, which is why it has been selected to host this competition for the sixth consecutive year,’ said Pratt, who urged competitors to ‘respect the sea and its resources, and share your knowledge with others’.

The catch and release contest is being televised for the popular SuperSport ‘Inside Angling’ programme, with boat crews also taking videos of the strikes and catches, and competing for a R5 000 ‘best footage’ prize hamper.

A number of international anglers have entered this Billfish Classic, which is also a qualifying event for the Offshore World Championship.
