New club and all that jazz

Jazz promotion takes off

FOLLOWING an exploratory meeting to form a jazz interest group in eShowe, a second meeting was held on Monday evening at the eShowe Bowling Club.

The well-attended meeting included members of the eShowe Jazz Crusaders, who were already promoting jazz in the town, and members of the Starlight Band.

It was decided the name ‘eShowe Jazz Crusaders’ be retained and a committee under the chairmanship of Philane Zungu was elected.

The vice-chairman is Muntu Mdletshe, secretary and deputy-secretary are Mo Mhlongo and Sihle Mthembu respectively.

Ernest Munsamy was elected as treasurer, while Eric Biyela, Linda Ngema, Anthony Brink and Larry Bentley were elected as ‘house band representative’, organiser, marketing officer and publicity respectively.

The committee is considering holding a jazz event at least every six weeks, but the year’s programme is still to be thrashed out at the next committee meeting.

Also on their agenda will be the writing of a constitution and a business plan.

Anyone wanting to be on the eShowe Jazz Crusaders’ mailing list can contact Philani on 082 5115743.
