Two suspected rhino poachers were been shot, while two others have been arrested, in Phinda Private Game Reserve last night.
According to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, Nyathi Security and Organised Crime members were involved.
The alleged poachers were spotted by guards and police and a shoot-out ensued.
A heavy calibre rifle with a silencer, axe and a knife were recovered as well as eight cellphones.
Eight people connected to poaching have been arrested in the province this year.
An equal number of rhinos have been killed.
