eShowe protesters demand work

The 60 community members are unhappy that the farm can only employ 50 per cent of its normal staff to harvest citrus, owing to Covid-19 restrictions

PROTESTERS converged on Fowler farm at Nkwalini on Wednesday morning demanding employment.

The 60 community members are unhappy that the farm can only employ 50 per cent of its normal staff to harvest citrus, owing to Covid-19 restrictions.

A meeting with four community representatives and the farm lawyers to discuss the situation has been scheduled .

The meeting will be held at the local tribal court.

Public Order Policing and the eShowe SAPS are monitoring the situation.

According to SAPS eShowe communications officer Zama Magwaza, neither the R66 nor the R34 roads are affected by the protests.
