Fish poachers not letting up during lockdown

Last week NCAP foiled several illegal operations and on Sunday removed 6.4km of gill nets after a member of the public reported illegal activities near the port

NORTH Coast Anti Poaching (NCAP) has had to beef up its efforts of combatting poaching as brazen perpetrators continue with their illegal fishing activities in Richards Bay.

Last week NCAP foiled several illegal operations and on Sunday removed 6.4km of gill nets after a member of the public reported illegal activities near the port.

Various fish species, mostly juvenile grunter (174) were released, which indicated the nets were fresh in the water.

On Wednesday night, members had to spring into action again and removed 5.4km of gill nets and released more than a hundred fish of different species.

The community can follow the operations of the unit on their facebook page @NCAPNRB
