KWAMSANE police on Monday arrested two suspects for possession of alcohol and cigarettes.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the two were headed from Empangeni, towards KwaMsane, and were arrested at Bhoboza Crossing.

According to uMkhanyakude police cluster spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, the members were conducting a routine patrol when they stopped a motor vehicle with two suspicious looking occupants.

‘They flagged down the vehicle to search it,’ said Captain Mdletshe.

‘During the search, two sealed boxes each containing 12 bottles of whiskey, pineapple Smirnoff and Red Label were found.

‘Police found another 11 bottles of Smirnoff vodka and 11 bottles of Red Label whiskey, 144 cans of beer and six packages of tobacco.’

Mdletshe further explained that the two were arrested for being in possession of prohibited goods during lockdown.

‘The recovered goods were seized as exhibits,’ he explained.

The two were released on bail at KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, and are expected to re-appear on 29 June.
