Earlier shopping hours give social grant recipients a head-start
Pick n Pay stores will be opening early this week to help customers receive their grants in a less crowded environment
THIS week Pick n Pay shopping outlets have added an extra operating hour (from 7am to 8am) to accommodate pensioners and social grant payout beneficiaries.
The additional hour yesterday and today (Tuesday) was set aside for the elderly and persons with disabilities, and they had exclusive use of the store to shop for their groceries and essentials.

From tomorrow (Wednesday) to Friday, the stores will open early to accommodate all SASSA social grant beneficiaries, and staff will assist customers to collect their grants or to pay directly for items with their SASSA cards.
Pick n Pay’s weekly pensioners’ shopping hour will then continue from Wednesday, 13 May.
‘We are opening early to help our customers receive their grants in a less congested environment.
‘All stores will be well stocked for the week so that customers can get the groceries they want during one shopping session,’ said Pick n Pay representative, John Bradshaw.
‘Physical distancing measures include floor markers, queuing and shopping with a trolley and limiting the number of customers in store if required.
‘There will be demarcated areas for queues outside stores and marshals will facilitate any queues to help maintain physical distancing.
‘Hand sanitiser will be available as customers enter the store and at till points.
‘All stores have Perspex screens at till points, and staff have been provided with cloth face masks.
‘Customers are reminded to wear a mask at all times.’
