Zululand SPCAs need urgent public help
The Empangeni, eShowe and Richards Bay SPCAs are appealing to the public to support them with financial donations, however small

ALL three SPCAs in the King Cetshwayo District remain fully operational, yet owing to the lockdown regulations, find themselves in dire straits financially because they are unable to fund-raise.
For this reason, the Empangeni, eShowe and Richards Bay SPCAs are appealing to the public to support them with financial donations, however small.
As NPOs, the SPCAs do not receive government funding and have to rely on fund-raising, donations and sponsorships, to carry out their critical work within local communities.
Empangeni SPCA’s charity shop has been closed since the lockdown began and Richards Bay SPCA’s monthly market days had to be halted until restrictions on public gatherings are eased.
Yet, the work of the inspectors and staff members at all three SPCAs continues unabated and has, in some instances, increased becaus of the lockdown.
Cruelty cases are still attended to, which incur fuel costs, while stray, abandoned and surrendered animals are given shelter and food and staff members must still be paid their salaries.
These, as well as regular operational costs must be paid.
They also cannot take in boarding animals during this time, which means an additional income loss.
The SPCAs have all expressed much gratitude for the support they have already received from generous members of the community, but they require more to be able to continue functioning.
