IN a shock announcement on Tuesday, the Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZCCI) suspended Executive Manager, Charmayne Pountney ‘with immediate effect until further notice’.
In a letter to stakeholders, ZCCI President Sizwe Khumalo said the Chamber was ‘currently conducting an investigation on a number of allegations’.
These were not specified but Khumalo referred to ‘misconduct’ and said an investigation and disciplinary process would proceed speedily.
Clearly disappointed, Pountney said the action was the result of ‘misunderstandings which could easily be dealt with in open and honest discussion’.
‘I have always acted in the best interests of the Chamber and I am concerned that this will be a backward step in terms of our business confidence standing.
‘I trust matters will be resolved swiftly so that the ZCCI does not suffer.’
