Dolphins announced as one-day champions
Cricket South Africa made the call after having to shut down all cricket activities in compliance with the national 21-day lockdown
THE Dolphins have been awarded the Momentum One Day Cup 50 over competition title by default.
Cricket South Africa made the call after having to shut down all cricket activities in compliance with the national 21-day lockdown.
The KZN Coastal side will share the 3-day Provincial Cup title with Easterns.
Empangeni’s pace bowler Daryn Dupavillon played a key role in the Dolphins’ success in the one day competition.
His brilliant form earned him a Protea call-up for the one-day match against Australia in Potchefstroom.
The Dolphins were the in-form team throughout the competition with seven wins out of ten games during the group stages, which not only saw them finish on the top of the log, but also secure a home semi-final and final.
Grant Roelofsen was the top batsman for the Durban franchise with 588 runs at an average of 65.33 and a top score of 147 not out.
The bowler that caused the most damage in the competition was spinner Keshav Maharaj, who took sixteen wickets in seven matches at an average of 14 runs per wicket.
This is a first major trophy for head coach Imraan Khan, along with his assistant Quinton Friend and fielding coach Mduduzi Mbatha.
‘To have two sides walking away with silverware again this season is fantastic,’ said CEO of KZN Cricket, Heinrich Strydom.
‘The Dolphins played some brilliant cricket in the white ball format and despite the disappointment of not having the play-offs, we are proud of what the team achieved to finish top of the log.
‘It is hugely encouraging to see the Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal team performing so well in the red ball competition and it bodes well for the next generation of players coming through the pipeline into the Dolphins mix.’
