Journaling the path to parenting
Former Richards Bay teacher publishes a journal devoted to parenting
USING her years of experience from teaching and ministry, a former Richards Bay resident has unveiled a tool to enhance parenting.
Amanda Munian, a former Richards Bay Secondary teacher, is the author of ‘Re -Find Parenting’, a journal devoted to parenting.
Taking a back seat from teaching last year and committing to full time ministry work, Munian fine-tuned her book which was released in May.
She had seen the dire need to tackle the growing challenges in society where families were concerned and believed a 365-day journal on how parents can improve and build relationships with their child, was key to addressing social problems.
She was in Richards Bay last week and shared some insights about the book with the Eastern Watch newspaper.
‘Parents today feel helpless with the limited time spent with children, but even a few minutes everyday just asking them about their day, makes a world of difference.
‘Every child needs to know they are of value for them to grow with confidence and self worth.
‘We say that this generation has no values, no morals or manners and what we fail to realise is children are not born with a system of morals and values or manners, for that matter, it has to be taught!
‘Do not ever give up on the dream you have for your life and your children.
‘This journal takes you on a daily journey to rediscovering yourself and your child and what it is to be a parent.
‘You don’t have to write much, just one line pushes your to accountability and ensures you take responsibility to make the effort to find out more about your child.’
Background
While Munian does not have any children, having worked in the teaching field for many years, she believes parents and teachers must play an active role in the development of children.
Zion Matthew, Founder and CEO of I Am Legacy , an empowerment programme, has commended the book as a must have for every parent who seeks to raise successful, significant and well balanced children.
‘It is the sole responsibility of every parent to ‘be involved’ in every arena of their child’s development and ultimate success.
‘This journal could not have come at a more significant time in our nation when teenage suicide is on the rise, high school drop-outs are reaching magnitudes. Our children need a firm, but loving hand, to embrace their pain and calm their fears.
