Still ‘Seeing Red!’

Zululand Observer editor, DAVE SAVIDES is ready to snap photos of illegal drivers

FIVE minutes at the intersection of Bullion Boulevard and Guldengracht in Richards Bay on Tuesday was more than enough time to snap two drivers failing to stop when the robots turned red as they approached.

As part of our ongoing ‘Seeing Red!’ campaign, the Zululand Observer will send the photos to the City of uMhlathuze for the attention of the traffic department.

The public is welcome to send us short video clips or sequence photos showing red light violations and we will also pass these on to the authorities.

Traffic violators caught on camera

THE ‘Seeing Red’ campaign has been met with enthusiasm as many Zululanders have sent in photos of motorists flouting the road rules.

Clinton Schreiber filmed drivers not stopping at the Kerk Street and Dunne Road traffic circle in Empangeni today.

The ‘Seeing Red’ campaign was launched this month by the Zululand Observer in a bid to curb motorists breaking the law.

A photographer caught motorists failing to brake or stop when the traffic lights turned red at the intersection of Main Road and Frank Bull in Empangeni.

The photos will be sent to the City of uMhlathuze for the attention of, and investigation by, the traffic department.

People are welcome to send short video clips or sequence photos to show red light violations and we will pass these on to the authorities.

  1. Excellent !! Hope the culprits get their just dues.

For those that can afford it , install a dashboard camera in your car. You can download the images and forward them on to the ZO.

  2. Excellent! I hope the authorities use the photographs and video as evidence to prosecute people. Too many times people are killed or injured through blatant refusal to follow the rules of the road.

  3. dit sien ek elke dag en die verkeer beamptes doen niks nie hul kyk net weg. of hul sit en slaap in die kar terwyl die ander 1 sit op n stoel en maak mof sy hul afneem maar sy slaap

  4. The cops won’t do a thing, it means they will have to work. This happens all day every day. When, if ever have you seen a cop writing a ticket near a robot?? We should see it every day at every intersection if they were doing their work. Want to tell me they never see this happening, it’s just our imagination that this is happening. Ja, well, no, fine.

  5. You should see the 4 way stop at Mandlazini – nobody even slows down there and it’s very dangerous.

  6. What can I say.. NRB 1 does not even slow down at an intersection, what do you expect the rest will do? and @Fred, re-phrase – Ja Well, NO Fine! It all starts with Law Enforcement and it starts at the Top!

  7. Who photographs these idiot traffic lights in the middle of the night when they are all red for minutes at a time from all directions, so all vehicles must stop and become easy prey for vagrants and hi-jackers. Who photographs the same idiot traffic lights when they impede the flow of traffic by causing every car to stop at every light in the rush hour traffic, who photographs the traffic lights that shouldn’t even be there and asks where they come from and why the tax payer had to pay for them in the first place? When the traffic lights stop upsetting drivers, perhaps there can be a little less anarchy and a bit more safety but just as it is right now, the traffic lights are their own worst enemy and waste hundreds of litres of valuable fuel every day. Treat the cause, not the symptoms Mr Savides.

  8. Cameras at roborts will make them more money. And they do not even have to sit under a tree. !!!
