The incident occurred in heavy seas during a ski boat fishing competition

A CAPSIZED fishing vessel off Cape Vidal was quickly attended to by NSRI St Lucia Station 40, whose members were in the vicinity conducting routine training.

According to NSRI duty coxswain Charl Koen, the fishing boat in question capsized at the backline in heavy surf.

‘Our NSRI wave runner rescue craft diverted and attended to the two adult male crew members who were safely taken back to the beach,’ said Koen.

‘The boat was towed to Cape Vidal bay by NSRI and righted in calmer waters.

‘One of the crew from the capsized vessel sustained superficial injuries only.

‘Damage to the vessel was limited to the tee top and centre console.

‘Once the boat was loaded onto their trailer no further assistance was needed.’
