Eskom implements stage 1 load-shedding

There is a possibility that load-shedding will continue to Thursday

AS of 9am today (Monday), stage 1 load -shedding has been implemented by Eskom.

This follows an up-and-down weekend after the loss of seven generation units on Friday night, three of which were recovered on Saturday.

While Eskom said earlier this morning that load-shedding would be implemented between 9am and 11pm today, there was a high likelihood that it would continue to Thursday.

‘This is owing to a number of units still on unplanned breakdowns, which will only return during the course of the week,’ said the power utility.

‘It will also help Eskom to rebuild the emergency reserves that were depleted as we strove to keep the lights on during the high equipment breakdowns we experienced towards the end of last week.’

As of 7.20pm last night, unplanned breakdowns were at 11 700MW, while planned maintenance outages were at 4 963MW.

Eskom has urged people to use electricity sparingly to assist in reducing demand.
