Murder earns soldier a life sentence

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 10 years imprisonment each on twelve counts of attempted murder, 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 15 years for kidnapping and 15 years for illegal possession of a firearm

KZN police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, has applauded the investigating officer after the conviction of former SADF member, Thembinkosi American Ngcobo ( 27), for murder and attempted murder.

Ngcobo was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Durban High Court on Friday.

‘It was very disappointing for us to arrest a member of the security forces, however we have always maintained that no one is above the law.

‘The investigating officer must be commended for ensuring that the accused faced the full might of the law for his dreadful deeds.

‘We hope that we have brought some comfort to the devastated family of the victim,’ Jula said.

Ngcobo went on a shooting spree in January 2017.

The court heard he drove from the Northern Cape to Inanda in Durban looking for his girlfriend.

When he reached her homestead at Inanda, his girlfriend was not at home and he found her sisters and aunt at the premises.

He opened fire on them, killing one sister and seriously wounding the aunt.

Ngcobo then drove to Ntuzuma township in Durban looking for his girlfriend, and abducted one of her relatives.

When police officers arrived at the scene Ngcobo opened fire on them and ran way, but was later arrested.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 10 years imprisonment each on twelve counts of attempted murder, 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 15 years for kidnapping and 15 years for illegal possession of a firearm.
