Provincial police spokesperson colonel Thembeka Mbele said the woman was raped after a traditional ceremony in Mphothi, Ulundi in April 2018.
‘Just after midnight, the woman attended a traditional ceremony when she was raped by the known men who fled the scene after the incident. The case was registered at Ulundi SAPS and transferred the Ulundi Family Violence and Child Protection Unit.
Provincial SAPS commissioner, Lieutenant General Khominkosi Jula, said the heavy sentence should send a message to men who prey on vulnerable women.
