A street in eShowe with no water has its residents up in arms
The water is cut off daily and only turned on when a complaint is made
RESIDENTS in Hoo Foster Road in eShowe are up in arms over their water supply, or rather, lack of water supply.
According to Mr C Peters, the area has been having endless problems since November last year.
The water is cut off daily and only turned on when a complaint is made. December was the worst, with residents having no water for a solid two weeks.
Numerous calls to the water works department, accounts office, the ward councillor and technician by Peters, have
proven fruitless.
Following a call to the King Cetshwayo office, the following response was received:
‘Please contact the head of technical Mr X Mthembu on 035 7992517.
‘He may be able to provide some direction.’
Only Hoo Foster affected
Having spoken to numerous people around town, Peters says the other areas did not appear to have a problem except for a few days when the pumps were under repair.
This seems to be the only street in eShowe that is affected.
Peters says, ‘When we do get water, it is sometime around 7pm or 8pm and in the morning it is back to square one’.
Ward councillor Ald Stan Larkan says the street has problems, especially when the water pressure is low.
This explains why water is available in the evening, when there is less demand.
Many residents have, at their own expense, installed water tanks with pumps, which alleviates the problem, but this expense is not everyone’s solution due to the costs.
