Heat today, gone tomorrow

Today's scorching temperatures will be replaced by cooler, wet weather tomorrow

WHILE Zululanders are sweltering in the heat today (Monday), with reports of 44 degrees C at 1pm in Richards Bay, tomorrow should bring some relief as the temperature looks set to drop to a more comfortable 28 degrees.

The change in temperature will bring with it a 62% chance of rain and 29% chance of thunderstorms.

February is notoriously the hottest and most humid month in Zululand, and this year it appears to have lived up to this reputation.

2020 has got off to a record-breaking start with January being the warmest on record globally.

In 141 years of record keeping by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in the United States, there has never been a warmer January.

This was confirmed by data released by the European climate observing programme, Copernicus, last week.

Last month’s temperatures surpassed those of January 2016 – previously the hottest on record – by just 0.02 of a degree.
