Good rains recorded along the Zululand coast

The most rain was measured in Richards Bay

RAINFALL figures for February have been promising for both farmers and for the dams, although most of the rain fell along the coast.

Electrical storms were also experienced in the region, but no deaths have been reported.

The highest rainfall measured was at the Richards Bay Clean Air Association’s station at the Central Sports Complex – 258.8mm with 180.3mm falling last Friday.

According to data from the Zululand Fire Protection Association, Mposa received 113mm since the beginning of February.

Mandini and UVS outside Empangeni measured 104.5mm and 91mm respectively over the same period.

Further north, Dukuduku received 61mm, RBM 70mm, with Nyalazi measuring only 13mm.

To illustrate how little rain fell inland, the Goedertrouw Dam’s level stood at 51.7% of its full storage capacity, which is the same as the previous week.

Pongolapoort Dam increased by 0.1% over the last week and was at 43.8% on Monday.
