Leadership development programme for Zululand

Former Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, who is co-founder of the ThuMa Foundation, launched the programme in Empangeni late last year

THE Zululand business and education community will soon benefit from the internationally acclaimed and highly impactful leadership development programme, Partners for Possibilities (PfP).

Brought to the area by the non-profit organisation, Symphonia for South Africa and the ThuMa Foundation, this multi-award-winning initiative develops conscious and effective leaders through cross-sectoral collaborations that are designed to build leadership capability and capacity through participation in the huge challenges facing South African schools.

Former Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, who is co-founder of the ThuMa Foundation, launched the programme in Empangeni late last year.

Founded in 2010, PfP is a structured 12-month programme that partners school principals of marginalised schools with business leaders in a co-action, co-learning development partnership.

Over the past decade, the programme has transformed thousands of school and business leaders nationwide, and is globally considered to be a best-practice example of leadership development in the 21st Century.

The programme consists of a number of key elements, including professional coaching of the school principals and business leaders, five days of world-class, intensive training workshops, in-field practical leadership training exposure in the complex world of the marginalised South African school, and practice sessions bringing together principals and business leaders for regular learning and networking opportunities.

While the programme comes with a price tag of R122 500 for a school principal and his/her business partner to complete the programme, leaders in the Zululand community are eligible to benefit from full sponsorship.

‘We are very excited to announce that we have secured full funding for eight school principals and eight local business leaders for the pilot group in the Zululand programme, which will begin in March,’ said Justin Foxton, PfP KZN Co-ordinator.

‘We are now looking for local leaders to partner with schools, with all programme details set to be clearly outlined at our upcoming Zululand information session.’ Funding for the principals is being supplied by FEMEF (Federated  Employers’ Mutual Education Foundation), with funding for the leaders provided by the Development Bank of South Africa.

‘It is great that such a huge contribution has been made to Zululand and we would now like to encourage local business leaders, from all sectors (SMME, corporate, NGO and community, faith-based and media) to attend the information session and discover how they may be able to benefit from and contribute towards their community through this programme,’ said Foxton.

Business leaders will partner with school principals under the leadership of local facilitator, Bongani Hlongwane.

While local corporate leaders are encouraged to participate, the programme welcomes all manner of leaders and entrepreneurs seeking to gain international leadership training and experience while impacting education.

‘There are so many leaders in this area from small, medium and large enterprises with skills to offer, and we’d really like to have a wide representation of sectors on board,’ concluded Foxton.

The information session will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at the Zululand Observer boardroom, 3 Baines Road, Empangeni.

Registration is at 10am, with the session running from 10.30am to 11.30am.  RSVP to Diane@Symphonia.net
