No reason to celebrate – IFP
At a media briefing at the IFP offices in Empangeni on Friday, the party said Dr Sibeko left a poor legacy
THE Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) believes there is nothing to celebrate in the City of uMhlathuze, following the resignation of Municipal Manager, Dr Nhlanhla Sibeko, last Wednesday.
At a media briefing at the IFP offices in Empangeni on Friday, the party said Dr Sibeko left a poor legacy.
Among the other things, the IFP claims basic service delivery came to a halt under his leadership.
According to uMhlathuze IFP Chairperson, Xolani Ngwezi, there are many examples which indicate that Dr Sibeko cared more about politics than public service delivery.
‘Uncut grass and trees all over the city are endangering motorists and pedestrians. Potholes have become a standard feature as the maintenance of roads and storm water drains, for example, took a back seat to nepotism, corruption and incompetence by the ANC-led council in the city.
‘Year on year, audit reports have been poor, results of investigations by the city are not released to the public and no one has been held to account for gross mismanagement, poor planning and lack of financial control,’ Ngwezi said.
‘Together with his party, Dr Sibeko has failed the residents of uMhlathuze. Many questions have gone unanswered and we believe the hasty departure from office is owing to multiple probes and difficult questions Dr Sibeko must account for.
‘Infrastructure funds have gone missing which were supposed to finance the building of roads, and where are the funds which were made available for water infrastructure in the Ntambanana area?,’ Ngwezi asked.
He added that the IFP will continue to champion clean governance, better service delivery and financial management, and ensure that service delivery remains the number one priority in uMhlathuze.
