Decomposed body of woman found in bakkie

Nomusa 'Merry' Myeni (51) disappeared from her home and her family reported her missing at the Mtubatuba police station last Tuesday

A DEVASTATED family in Khula Village outside Mtubatuba seeks answers as to why their mother was killed and her body left in her bakkie on the N2 highway.

Nomusa ‘Merry’ Myeni (51) disappeared from her home and her family reported her missing at the Mtubatuba police station last Tuesday.

On Wednesday, KwaMbonambi SAPS attended a murder scene along the N2 highway near the weighbridge at Eteza.

The decomposed body of an adult female was found locked inside the vehicle, covered with a blanket and the spare wheel placed on top of her.

The deceased was identified by her family members as being Nomusa.

Khula Village ward councillor Siya Khumalo said the family reported her missing and asked if he could assist in locating her.

‘I posted the victim’s name and vehicle registration number on Facebook and asked if anyone had seen her or her vehicle,’ said Khumalo.

‘Almost immediately someone responded, saying they had seen the vehicle on the N2 at the Eteza weighbridge. This led to the discovery of the body in the vehicle by police.’

According to the police a murder case is still under investigation and no arrest has been made at this stage.

The deceased’s son, Nathi Mjadu, said he was shocked when he saw the decomposed body of his mother in the car

‘I can’t even explain the way I feel about this situation. My mother left the house early in the morning last Tuesday after receiving a phone call from someone and she didn’t tell us who that person was or where she was going.

‘We believe that police will be able to trace her killer because at the place where the body was found there is a CCTV camera.

Nomusa’s funeral took place at her home at Khula Village near Mtubatuba on Saturday. She leaves behind eight children, some still at school.

The Department of Social Development intervened to help with counselling and other support.

‘It is our priority and responsibility to protect the rights of children, therefore we will do everything within our power to ensure that the children are being taken care of,’ said department spokesperson Memela Mhlaba.
