Local businessman’s goodwill goes viral

THE managing director of a local company brought social media users to tears after his act of kindness was posted on the popular Facebook group, #ImStaying.

The group was formed last year with the purpose of sharing uplifting stories which contribute to painting a positive picture of South Africa.

In a matter of months, the group’s numbers reached a million users and have made nationwide headlines for creating a platform that shared hope and encouraged unity. Trends such as tipping waiters the same amount of the overall bill began on the group and quickly spread across the country over the festive season.

A local spin was added to the mix when the managing director of Tangawizi Motors, Eddie Reid, received a heartwarming thank you from a member of his staff.

Sthe Jama posted that Reid took care of his family after he was involved in a tragic accident last year and spent four months in hospital.

Reid told him to focus all his energy on recovering.

‘I was involved in a car accident which left me with two broken legs, internal bleeding and organ malfunction. I was in a coma in ICU for 21 days and doctors informed my family that there was only a 10 per cent chance that I would make it.

‘By the grace of God I survived. I want to thank my managing director of Tangawizi Motors, Eddie Reid, for giving his time to come and visit me and his words were: ‘Jama just focus on getting better and I will take care of the rest’.

And he did attending to my house bond, food, school fees for my kids and so on.’

The post received 43 000 likes, more than 3 000 comments and more than 1 000 shares.
