District engages community on water supply
Mkhulisi was accompanied by Deputy Mayor BL Phungula, district Speaker Khulani Hadebe, uMlalazi Municipality Speaker CT Dlamini and other district municipality management members
KING Cetshwayo District Mayor Nonhle Mkhulisi recently led a community engagement at Nxenjane Primary School in uMlalazi to discuss, among other issues, water supply interventions for the area.
Mkhulisi was accompanied by Deputy Mayor BL Phungula, district Speaker Khulani Hadebe, uMlalazi Municipality Speaker CT Dlamini and other district municipality management members.
They reported on temporary measures currently being undertaken relating to the provision of water tankers, while assuring residents that work continues to ensure permanent solutions are implemented.

These include refurbishment of the eShowe water treatment works and the fast-tracking of KwaHlokoHloko bulk water supply upgrades.
The engagement follows a round table discussion with Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, David Mahlobo, in December where the state of water supply in the district came under scrutiny.
Mahlobo urged the representatives of the Umgeni and Mhlathuze Water Boards who were present at the meeting, to work closely with the district to implement proposed bulk water projects and requested that boreholes be prioritised where groundwater is available.
The deputy minister further pledged the support of his department to fine-tune the water master plan for the district and to urgently intervene with short-term measures.
