No late applications for NSFAS accepted

NSFAS refuted a social media post which has been circulating online purporting to be from the financial aid scheme

THE National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) says it will not accept late applications for the 2020 academic year.

NSFAS refuted a social media post which has been circulating online purporting to be from the financial aid scheme.

‘Several social media posts have been circulating stating that the NSFAS 2020 application cycle has been opened for late applications at universities. You are advised that this statement is false,’ NSFAS said in a media statement.

‘The application window was from 1 September to 30 November 2019.’

Ahead of the November deadline last year, NSFAS announced it had received 365 922 applications nationwide, with KwaZulu Natal, Gauteng, and Limpopo provinces continuing to lead with the highest number of submissions.

Government has set aside more than R80-billion for the next three years to ensure that prospective students from poor and working class families with a combined household income of less than R350 000 per annum have access to higher education.

‘NSFAS assesses the financial eligibility of a student, while institutions are responsible for making admissions decisions,’ said Higher Education Minister, Blade Nzimande.
