
KZN MEC for Education, Kwazi Mshengu, announced the 2019 KZN matric results at the Durban ICC today (Wednesday).
Mshengu noted an overall increase in the KZN pass rate to 81.3%, a 5.1% increase from last year.
Within the ZO coverage areas, Zululand District obtained a 79.1% pass rate, uMkhanyakude 80.6% and King Cetshwayo 79.3%.
Special praise was given to the Ilembe District for achieving an 80.9% pass rate. The district previously had the lowest pass rate in the province.
Overall 121 schools in KZN obtained a 100% pass rate, while three schools had zero success.
Mshengu said that while the provincial results increased significantly, more focus would be placed on early childhood development.
