A DAY before pension payouts were due to be made, the Hluhluwe Post Office was burgled.
It is reported that Post Office employees about to enter their offices on the Monday morning realised there had been a break-in.
According to a statement from Hluhluwe police, all the windows were closed and the doors had been locked properly over the weekend.
‘Everything was in order, but when the employees returned on Monday, they discovered that the air conditioner was damaged and that the alarm box was lying on the ground.

‘In the other office they had tried to dig under the safe wall but they failed to penetrate it to reach the cash safe.
‘The ceiling boards were removed and parcels in the strong room were opened and some were stolen; the router box was also opened,’ said the police statement.
Constable Phakamile Nene confirmed the incident, adding that a case of burglary at a business premises has been opened at Hluhluwe Police Station.
He said the case was being investigated by Detective Masuku and no arrest has been made yet.
