Appeal for witnesses to car accident

Yvonne Oosthuizen's daughter Megan Steyl and two-year-old granddaughter Esmeralda Steyl were both injured when the car in which they were travelling overturned at the entrance to Meerensee

THE grandmother of a toddler who was severely injured in an accident in Meerensee last Friday, is appealing for witnesses to come forward so a case can be pursued.

Yvonne Oosthuizen’s daughter Megan Steyl and two-year-old granddaughter Esmeralda Steyl were both injured when the car in which they were travelling overturned at the entrance to Meerensee.

The two were both ejected from the car, which then landed on top of Esmeralda.

The driver of the vehicle disappeared.

Mother and daughter, Megan and Esmeralda Steyl, are still in hospital receiving treatment for their injuries

Esmeralda was severely injured, suffering from a broken femur and she had cuts all over her body.

She has had to undergo surgery to extract many glass shards, one of which was dangerously close to an artery.

Megan sustained a broken jaw and arm, a cracked disc in her neck and damage to her pelvis.

They are both in Ngwelezana Hospital receiving medical treatment for their extensive injuries.

‘When I arrived at the accident, all I was focused on were my daughter and granddaughter, and I was unable to take photographs of the scene,’ said Yvonne.

‘The driver of the vehicle could not be found, and before a case can be opened and the cause of the accident investigated, traffic and police officers need evidence in the form of photographs and videos from witnesses.’

Witnesses willing to come forward can contact Yvonne on 079 7652739.
