Midweek examination for NRB
It will take some time for new coach Ian Palmer to work out his best combinations and player strengths, but there were promising signs during Saturday’s match
RICHARDS Bay FC need to pull out all the stops when they take on Pretoria University at the uMhlathuze Stadium tomorrow (Wednesday), kick-off 3.30pm.
While the NRB boys are having a bad run at present, with only three points from their last six games, Tuks is flying high in fourth place with two games in hand over the other top sides.
But there’s little to separate the mid-table sides from the front runners, and Richards Bay is quite easily able to pull off a much-needed win.
Local fans are eyeing the slowdown in the NRB points-gathering progress with some concern, and with an away fixture to Royal Eagles on Saturday, this had better be the start of results that give a renewed belief in the side.
It will take a bit of time for new coach Ian Palmer to work out his best combinations and player strengths, but there were promising signs during Saturday’s Nedbank Cup loss to Ajax Cape Town.
They need to maintain intensity and concentration for the full 90 minutes to keep themselves in the game, as it is the lapses and errors that have cost them dearly in the most recent clashes in the GladAfrica NFD Championship.
The number of times the possession has been lost through stray passes and under-hit crosses has been criminal, while there has been a general lack of conviction and confidence when going for goal.
But the ingredients are there for better things, so let’s hope Wednesday is the turning point.
