New home for Port Durnford family

TEARS of joy rolled down Thandekile Dludla’s cheeks when she received the keys to her new home last week.
The 50-year-old walked into a fully furnished, four-roomed house in Port Durnford which was donated through the intervention of City of uMhlathuze Mayoress, Thandeka Mhlongo.
Thandekile, her two daughters and five grandchildren had been living in a mud house before it was destroyed by strong winds.
Local church members, who also donated groceries last week, approached Mayoress Mhlongo, who mobilised business people to assist the family.
‘It’s really heartbreaking to sleep in the comfort of your own bed knowing there are people who do not even have shelter over their heads.
‘I came to know about this situation through a colleague who goes to the same church as Mrs Dludla.
‘Much appreciation goes to all who contributed to what we are witnessing today,’ said Mhlongo.
