Teachers demand salaries
Teachers at the Kingdom Christian College in Mtubatuba downed tools last week Thursday
TEACHERS at the Kingdom Christian College in Mtubatuba downed tools last week Thursday, complaining about the non-payment of their salaries.
They accuse college owner, Solomon Tembe, as the cause of their problems.
One teacher said while they loved their jobs as educators, they could not allow themselves to be mistreated.
‘We have been working at the school without being paid since September.
‘Our families have suffered over the last two months. It is still unclear whether we are going to receive our salaries this month or not.
Tembe conceded there had been challenges.
‘On Wednesday we were forced to release our learners, except matric pupils who were writing their paper on that day.
‘The school employs close to 46 employees, including 22 educators. We don’t have enough funds to pay the teachers’ salaries as we rely on school fees to do so.
‘Many teachers think I’m a billionare. I’m not. In September parents did not pay the school fees and as a result we were unable to pay the teachers,’ he said.
