Murder suspect killed by police in Thandaza Reserve
It is reported that Mhlongo (29) was stabbed by the suspects during a heated argument in Thandaza Reserve in the Mhlana Traditional Authority
ONE suspect was shot and killed by police, and his accomplice arrested, following the murder of Dumisani Mhlongo, who suffered multiple stab wounds at a local tavern on Saturday.
It is reported that Mhlongo (29) was stabbed by the suspects during a heated argument in Thandaza Reserve in the Mhlana Traditional Authority.
When police arrived at the scene, eyewitnesses provided them with the descriptions and identities of the suspects, and a search began.
SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nkosingiphile Mthethwa, said police followed the lead and arrested a 27-year old suspect at his residence in Mbabe Reserve, before proceeding to another homestead in the same area.
‘The second suspect resisted the arrest and was shot in his right thigh by police. He was identified as Thamsanqa Fana Mthethwa (32). He died at the scene due to gunshot injury.
‘We are investigating a case of murder against the arrested suspect, and an inquest docket was opened and handed over to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) who attended the scene for investigation.
‘A murder suspect appeared at KwaMbonambi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody for further investigation.
‘He will reappear next week for a formal bail application,’ she said.
Mthethwa said they attended to another murder incident in Nhlabosini area, Jombigazi tavern on Sunday morning, where the body of a 26-year old man Zotha Menzi Kunene was found, with stab wounds in the chest.
‘His body was taken to the state mortuary in Richards Bay. A case of murder was registered at KwaMbonambi SAPS and no arrest has been made yet,’ said Mthethwa.
