RESIDENTS of the Ubizo Reserve live in fear as traces of human remains have raised questions about a possible murder in the area.
According to a police source, Empangeni SAPS and the Umhlali K9 unit were called to the reserve 8km outside Empangeni last Wednesday morning after residents reported finding what looked like brain matter and bullet cartridges.
‘The witnesses said they heard gunshots the night before and saw a bakkie drive off, but they did not check because they were too scared.
‘When police arrived at the scene blood, brain matter and three bullet cartridges were found,’ the source said.
Police have not yet established if the blood belonged to a person or an animal.
‘None of the locals were reported missing, so at this point the matter is an inquest until we establish if a person was shot and killed. The K9 Unit will be inspecting the area.’
