WE all love a good shopping spree, and even though most stores now offer online boutique shopping, nothing beats the experience of trying out an outfit for size and style.
But did you know that while you are trying out that little black dress or a cool T-shirt, you might be exposed to a number of infections and diseases?
According to research, infections are spread when you try out clothes in any store, mainly because you don’t know what ailment the person before you might have.
Dermatologist, Dr Apratim Goel, a laser surgeon at Cutis skin studio in Mumbai, says whenever you feel the need to try out clothes at a store, make sure you pick something that is right at the bottom of the stock- hoping that it has been untouched.
Also make sure you wash any garment after purchase before wearing it..
Dr Goel highlighted five diseases you can catch while trying on clothes in stores.
Scabies
It is characterised by itchy rash/papules and spread through skin-to-skin contact or when the skin rubs against clothing worn by someone with scabies
Fungal infection/tinea
Itchy red, scaly rash with advancing margins can be present in groins or over the body
Warts
One of the most common infections caused by the HPV virus. It is characterised by cauliflower like growth and can be present over genitals. It can easy be passed on through wearing the same clothing
Molluscum contagiosum
This spreads easily and it produces benign raised lesions. This condition results in round and firm boil like rashes
Chicken Pox
Yes, this highly contagious viral infection which causes itching, blister like rashes on the skin can be spread by trying out clothes.
