60-year-old Patrick 'Phiwayinkosi' Makhathini went to the clinic inside the prison to collect his medicine, but collapsed and died in full view of the nurses
A MURDER case has been opened at the Empangeni police station following the mysterious death of a Qalakabusha Correctional Services inmate, who was described as mentally disturbed.
King Cetshwayo Regional Police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said the 60-year-old man, Patrick ‘Phiwayinkosi’ Makhathini, went to the clinic inside the prison to collect his medicine, but collapsed and died in full view of the nurses.
‘We were informed that the clinic’s nurses did a thorough check-up on him and discovered bruises on his body, which implied he had been beaten by other inmates.
‘We await a post-mortem report,’ said Mdlalose.
