House title deeds handed over
However, it came with a warning to recipients not to take the risk of using the deeds for loan security
THERE was jubilation in Dumisani Makhaye Village last Friday, when KZN MEC for Human Settlement and Public Works, Peggy Nkonyeni handed over 87 title deeds to the rightful housing beneficiaries.
However, it came with a warning to recipients not to take the risk of using the deeds for loan security.
Nkonyeni was accompanied by City of uMhlathuze Mayor, Mduduzi Mhlongo, Deputy Mayor Cllr Dudu Sibiya and Speaker, Silondile Mkhize.’It gives me a pleasure to hand over title deeds to the beneficiaries of Phase 1 to Phase 7 RDP houses,’ said Nkonyeni.
Nkonyeni said the Title Deeds Restoration Programme was initiated by the National Department of Human Settlements years back, and the programme was being implemented in all provinces.
‘The reason we are here is to hand over these title deeds, not to campaign for votes.
‘In this financial year, our National Department of Human Settlements allocated a budget of R101-million to our province for the Title Deeds Restoration Programme,’ she said.
She urged beneficiaries to safeguard their title deeds, as these were the only documents proving the ownership of the house.
‘I need to warn all of you not to use these title deeds for security, when making a loan at any financial institutions or loan sharks, because they will repossess the house if you fail to repay a loan, leaving your families homeless,’ she said.
Nkonyeni informed the attendees about the massive Empangeni Integrated Residential Development Programme (EIRDP), which will provide a variety of houses.
‘We have spent about R90-million on the infrastructure. The construction of these houses will soon start and the City of uMhlathuze will keep you updated about the latest developments,’ she said.
