Man robbed at busy traffic circle

Motorist pistol-whipped in KwaDlangezwa

A DURBAN businessman got more than he bargained for, when three men robbed him of his belongings at the KwaDlangezwa traffic circle.

Yusuff Suleman was travelling towards the University of Zululand (Unizulu) when a white bakkie with tinted windows pulled in front of him, and another vehicle tried to pushed him off the road. When he stopped, three men jumped out of the bakkie, held him at gunpoint and demanded his belongings.

They took his laptop, bag, cell phone, R600 in cash and a cell phone airtime card worth R3 000.

During the commotion, Suleman sustained a head injury when one perpetrator hit him on the head with a gun.

A case of armed robbery was opened at Empangeni police station and later transferred to Mtunzini police station.

Mtunzini SAPS spokesperson Lt Sbusiso Guma said road users must be aware of suspicious people at stop streets or at traffic circles.

‘It is unfortunate that someone was robbed of his belongs in our area. We urge the community to inform the police if they have any information regarding this attack or any other criminal activities,’ said Guma.
