Heavy rains reported in northern Zululand

It is believed that up to 120mm were received in places, with roads being badly eroded and streams flowing strongly

WHILE most of Zululand reported very little rain during Thursday night, reports of localised flooding were received from the Kosi Bay area in the north.

It is believed that up to 120mm were received in places, with roads being badly eroded and streams flowing strongly.

A total of 41.2 mm was measured for Wednesday and Thursday at the Makhatini weather station.

The rain did, however, drop off dramatically towards the south.

Mkuze, Hluhluwe, St Lucia, Dukuduku and KwaMbonambi all recorded figures below 5mm.

Empangeni, Heatonville, eShowe and Gingindlovu recorded 19mm, 9.9mm, 9.5mm and 13.6mm respectively.

These were the first widespread spring rains of the season and farmers are hopeful that the rains will continue.

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is presently very dry, but the veld should recover with even this small amount of rain.
