
A MAN has been arrested after stabbing a tavern customer to death in the Machibini Reserve, near Mtubatuba at the weekend.
According to the victim’s friend, Msizeni Mnqondo, the deceased, Thokozani Mdletshe, went into the local tavern to buy a couple of beers after they attended a community meeting.
I waited outside. After a minute I saw a guy running out of the tavern, wielding a knife. After that my friend emerged with one hand clutching his chest and told me, he had been stabbed.
‘I told him to sit down while I tried to get transport to take him to the nearest clinic. ‘When I returned he was already dead,’ said Mnqondo.
uMkhanyakude Regional police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, confirmed the arrest of a suspect. ‘A 24-year old man, Melusi Nene, was arrested for murder and appeared in the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
‘His case was postponed to Friday (last week) for a bail application.’
