Mtubatuba men march against women abuse
Mtubatuba Mayor, Velangenkosi Gumede, who led the march, said there is a need to create public awareness on the violence faced by women and children as rape, assault, abuse and murder were rife in the area
THE increase in gender-based violence has prompted Mtubatuba municipality personell and other stakeholders to take to the streets, calling for an end to women and children abuse.
Mtubatuba Mayor, Velangenkosi Gumede, who led the march, said there is a need to create public awareness on the violence faced by women and children as rape, assault, abuse and murder were rife in the area.
‘As men we cannot afford to keep quiet when our women and children are being butchered by people who call themselves men.

‘This is especially prevalent in rural areas, where people think that a man, as the breadwinner, should not go to jail.’
The march, which was also attended by municipal officials and police officers, began at the Total garage in Mtubatuba, past the taxi rank, and ended at the Mtubatuba Town Hall where a memorandum was handed over to the police.
