Mtunzini house breaking suspect nabbed

Five firearms, ammunition and other items were recovered during the arrest

A 25-year-old man believed to be responsible for burglary and the theft of 11 firearms and assorted ammunition at Phumula Farm in Mtunzini in July this year has been arrested. The suspect, believed to be one of the farm workers, was arrested by Mtunzini detectives in Chatsworth, near Durban last week.

Five firearms, ammunition and other items were recovered during the arrest.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, said the suspect appeared at the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Friday for charges related to possession of stolen property and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

‘The accused was arrested on Thursday night by Mtunzini detectives, who were tracking him for his involvement in crimes within their police precinct.

‘Detectives were following information from the Intelligence Unit, regarding a housebreaking case which was reported in Mtunzini last month.

‘The suspect was arrested and items that were taken during the housebreaking at Mtunzini were seized. These items include cellphones, laptop, dollars, a shotgun, a pistol, ammunition and clothing. Police investigations are continuing,’ said Zwane.
