Braai argument goes from bad to wors

Manzini (29) said he was humiliated in public by his leader on Saturday when he accused him of stealing his meat before assaulting him

THE IFP Youth Brigade branch chairperson of oPhande in Jozini, Lindani Manzini, has accused his constituency’s Youth Brigade Chairperson, Nkanyiso Mabaso, of assaulting him.

Manzini (29) said he was humiliated in public by his leader on Saturday when he accused him of stealing his meat before assaulting him.

Manzini said he was at a shisanyama with his friends having some drinks, when Mabaso arrived to have a braai.

‘He bought boerewors and handed it over to the men to braai for him. Later he accused the men of eating his boerewors, and during the altercation approached me and demanded his meat.

‘When I denied the allegations, he started assaulting me.’

Manzini believes it was a revenge attack after asking some questions about their role as IFP youth leaders of the constituency.

‘During that meeting I demanded to know what they have done as IFPYB leaders to equip young people of the sub-region. I think that question did not go down well with him,’ said Manzini.

He said he reported the matter to the local IFP leader for intervention, but there was no response.

‘That is why I decided to report the matter to the Jozini police so that I can get a clear explanation as to why I was assaulted.’

One of the local IFP leaders, who asked not to be named, said they have tried to intervene, but all their efforts were unsuccessful.

Attempts to obtain comments from Mabaso were fruitless as his cellphone was off.

IFP publicity officer in the uMkhanyakude region, Themba Zikhali, said the matter has not been brought to their attention.

‘We will contact the Jozini constituency about the incident and after getting all the facts we will issue a statement,’ he said.

Police spokesperson, Captain Senzo Gumede, confirmed that a case of assault was registered for investigation on Wednesday.
