SARS to assist people with hearing impairment
In Richards Bay, the South African Sign Language (SASL) interpreting service will be available on 13 September between 9am and 12pm, and also at Vuleka School for the Deaf in Nkandla between 10am and 1pm

WITH September being Deaf Awareness Month, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) will offer interpreting services at its branches on Fridays throughout the country.
‘SARS will work together with different organisations and municipalities that support persons with hearing impairment, to assist them with their tax affairs,’ the revenue service said.
In Richards Bay, the South African Sign Language (SASL) interpreting service will be available on 13 September between 9am and 12pm, and also at Vuleka School for the Deaf in Nkandla between 10am and 1pm.
‘This intervention is to break the barriers faced by sign language users. ‘The objective is also aligned with SARS’ objective this tax season to migrating taxpayers, including persons with hearing and visual impairments, to digital platforms.
‘The public is requested to share the message with all persons with hearing impairment in their respective communities, and to note that this service will also be extended to other members in the community who will need assistance with migrating to eFiling and the SARS MobiApp,’ the revenue service said.
The 2019 tax season opened in July for taxpayers who use the SARS digital platforms. For those filing their income tax returns at a SARS branch, the season opened last month and will close on 31 October.
